Democrats on Friday reacted furiously to President Trump’s decision to fire the intelligence community inspector general who informed Congress about the Ukraine whistleblower complaint. "Trump’s dead of night decision to fire ICIG Michael Atkinson is another blatant attempt to gut the independence of the Intelligence Community and retaliate against those who dare to expose presidential wrongdoing," said Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., who chairs the House Intelligence Committee. Trump notified both the Senate and House intelligence committees in a letter that he was removing Atkinson, effective in 30 days. Atkinson received a complaint from the still unidentified whistleblower about Trump’s July 25 call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. A source told Fox News that Republicans are also looking at the veracity of Atkinson's testimony about the whistleblower complaint; and the explanations he offered for changes made to the ICIG’s guidance on accepting second-hand information.
