Congressional Democrats have framed the vote on President Trump’s national emergency declaration as much more than a referendum on the southern border. In other words: If Republicans don’t oppose Trump’s national emergency declaration, they’re no better than the British loyalists during the American Revolution. The legislation opposing the national emergency declaration will almost certainly pass the Democratic-controlled House, even with some GOP support. acknowledged as much when he called it a “vote of principle” that deserves a vote regardless of the outcome. Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.), who called the emergency declaration “unnecessary, unwise, and inconsistent with the United States Constitution” is still undecided about how he’ll vote.
