There’s almost no movement in his approval ratings because Republicans and Democrats are firmly entrenched at opposite ends of the opinion spectrum. Not only do most Republicans like the job Trump is doing, most Republicans really like the job Trump is doing. Republicans were 6 points more likely to say they support the strikes than Trump’s Syria policy overall — but Democrats were 29 points more likely to support the strikes. That leads to an odd phenomenon: A lot of Democrats told Quinnipiac that they disapproved of how Trump was handling Syria but approved of the defining characteristic of Trump’s handling of Syria. Nearly two-thirds of Democrats who approved of the recent strikes on Syria nonetheless disapprove of Trump’s handling of Syria.
