Democracy in Africa: “Nepotism and Cronyism”

Several people have questioned the viability of democracy in Africa, citing that since the prodemocracy charges hit Africa in 1990s, democracy has not made substantial strides, as there are still huge issues of underdevelopment, corruption and mal-administration on the continent (Bassey & Udoudom, 2018)[2]. These include liberal democracy, developmental dictatorship, aka ‘guided’ democracy, social democracy, participatory democracy and consociational democracy (Sklar, 1983). Ghana and Africa need great leaders, who display an unwavering resolve when it comes to standards. African Studies Review, 26(3-4), pp.11-24[2] Bassey & Udoudom (2018) Developmental Democracy in Africa: A Review. (1983) Democracy in Africa.
