General News of Friday, 19 May 2017Source: citifmonline.comDelta Force 8: State Attorney did not err – Martin AmiduMartin Amidu, former Attorney GeneralA former Attorney General, Martin Amidu is of the view the Ashanti Regional State Attorney did not err in her decision to drop charges against members of the pro-New Patriotic Party (NPP) group, Delta Force, without consulting the Attorney General. But Mr. Amidu, in an article, argued that the State Attorney was not bound to refer the decision to the Attorney General before coming to any conclusions. It could even border on misconduct on the part of the Attorney General to urge the state attorney to alter his or her legal opinion, Mr. Amidu said. I have been the only Deputy Attorney General under the PNDC Government, and also the only Deputy Attorney General under the eight year term of the NDC1 & 2 Governments that terminated on 7th January 2001. What the advice proffered by the Ashanti Regional office of the Attorney General demonstrates is the importance of the presumption of innocence.
