The Transport Department of the Delhi government has urged the Centre for more clarification on mandatory installation of speed governors even while permitting issuance of fitness certificates to vehicles without anti-overspeeding equipment. "As an interim solution, the vehicles are being issued fitness certificates without speed governors. The clarification regarding more time for installation of the speed-limiting devices in old and new vehicles is awaited from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways," said the source. Installation of speed governors in the vehicles registered after May 1 is mandatory as per Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. The mandatory installation of the equipment is aimed at bringing down accidents by limiting maximum speed of vehicles at 80 KM per hour.
