Juan Martin del Potro has reached the semifinals for the third time in the past five grand slams after coming through a gruelling US Open quarterfinal battle with John Isner. Del Potro will face top-ranked Rafael Nadal or ninth-seed Dominic Thiem for a place in Sunday's (Monday NZT) title decider. Nadal beat del Potro last year in the last four at Flushing Meadows, and again this year in the semifinals of the French Open. Isner was trying to become the first American man to reach the US Open semifinals since Andy Roddick in 2006.
