New Zealand's premier Twenty20 spinner excelled but couldn't propel his side to victory in the Super Smash match at Hamilton's Seddon Park on Friday night. A crafty four-over spell from Ish Sodhi, which returned 2-21, only slightly hindered defending champions Wellington Firebirds. The visitors made 176-5 batting first and then ripped through the hosts early to triumph by 32 runs, despite Sodhi making easily his highest T20 score of 51 from just 36 balls batting at No 8. Knights allrounder Anton Devcich could face disciplinary action after showing and voicing his disapproval at 3rd umpire Wayne Knights after Knights had ruled Devcich had stepped on the boundary marker when trying to prevent a six from Wellington's Samit Patel.
