Rafael Hernandez won the 2016 Queen's Plate aboard Shaman Ghost. “I think I have the ability to do well at Woodbine.” Hernandez came to Woodbine for 17 races in 2015 including the Plate, and won seven of those, or 41 per cent. The Plate is expected to have a field of 13 or 14 horses and post positions will be drawn on Wednesday morning at Woodbine. Shaman Ghost’s trainer Brian Lynch was convinced the colt’s Plate win had a lot to do with Hernandez’s patient piloting job. One by one the jockeys in last year’s Plate went zooming toward the lead only to run out of gas.
