Dedicated showing by January Low

“THERE have been many times when I wake up and ask myself, why do I have the need to perform in the first place?” says odissi dancer January Low, about to perform her first full-length solo show in seven years called Dedicated. Dedicated will premiere works that Low learnt three years ago, in her makeshift studio in the basement of her home, from Odissi maestro from India, Sonali Mohapatra. “Dedicated in a way describes the seven-year journey of my full cycle from dancer to wife to mother and back to dancer again. “My Sunday matinee show is dedicated to all young girls, with hopes of teaching them discipline and self confidence,” she says. The show will offer a traditional Odissi dance repertoire, beginning with the mangala charanam invoking goddess sisters Tara Tarini, followed by the navarasa or a dance that describes the nine sentiments.
