Add to that a lack of proper safety measures to our nonchalant attitude towards risk factors, on top of the basic concept of safety often being missing within our urban administration. Dhaka is filled with apartments, though how many of them hold fire drills every year is the issue. In 2010, the Nimtoli fire took more than 100 lives, yet, no fire extinguisher will be noticed in any restaurant or shop in old Dhaka. To make the city safer, a thorough safety assessment is needed with some immediate measures taken, especially on the roads.
