The Government's safety watchdog ruled the death of an experienced Wellington lift technician in a workplace accident was not his employer's fault. WorkSafe found Scheib either thought he had engaged the pit switch, or knocked it accidentally, causing the lift to restart. Last year, union E tū started working with lift companies to improve the rules around lift safety.
