DallasHundreds of protesters marched peacefully into downtown Dallas as the sun was setting but as the night deepened, the chaos heightened. Chief U. Reneé Hall told demonstrators they could have the streets but “don’t hit my folks,” as reported in the Dallas Morning News. However, tension escalated as protesters began to throw rocks and bottles at police and the crowd moved to block a major interstate. Police responded with tear gas, sending up plumes of white smoke that sent protesters running. The clashes left behind a trail of damaged police vehicles, broken windows and vandalized storefronts.
