There’s reason to celebrate the milestone — and also to fret that it may not last. Employment rates for Hispanic women age 25 to 54 have jumped 2.2 percentage points since mid-2007, while those for black women rose 1.6 percentage points. By other measures, things look much the same as ever. “The richest 1 percent of earners — who are heavily white and male — have notched outsize earnings throughout the expansion and recovery,” Ms. Smialek adds.
