Deaf Aotearoa Otago youth group members (from back left) Tina Hughes of Dunedin, Josje Lelijveld of Dunedin, Luca Farquhar (12) of Dunedin, Libby Francis (14) of Naseby and Angel Witehira-Gaffey (12) of Dunedin, celebrate winning the best youth film at the New Zealand Deaf Short Film Festival after arriving at Dunedin Airport last night. Three deaf youngsters from Otago have scooped the best youth film at the New Zealand Deaf Short Film Festival. Editor Tina Hughes said the children decided to base the film on the telling of different stories about being young and deaf. Ms Hughes played a person in the film who did not want to make an effort to understand sign language. The team won a video camera which they planned to use to make another film to submit to the biennial festival.
