Sen. Leila de Lima on Thursday filed before the Office of the Ombudsman criminal and administrative complaints against Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre 2nd for his alleged failure to properly investigate the extrajudicial killings of suspected drug personalities. In her 27-page complaint, de Lima also accused Aguirre of gross negligence and incompetence to investigate the bribery scandal at the Bureau of Immigration and for falsifying evidence against her and other lawmakers whom he linked to the siege of Marawi City by the Maute extremist group. She claimed that Aguirre failed to investigate and prosecute more than 7,000 drug- related killings. “On numerous occasions before the public and members of the media, respondent (Aguirre) made false and highly slanderous criminal imputations against complainant,” the senator, who is detained on drug charges at the Philippine National Police’s Custodial Center, said. “Respondent falsely accused senators of conspiring to implicate him in the Jack Lam-BI scandal and maliciously accused Pagcor chair Andrea Domingo of entertaining a bribe offer from Jack Lam.”
