Daylong protest in Dhaka as BUP student’s death brings unsafe roads to the fore again


BUP students then took to the streets and shouted demands for punishment of the bus driver after police detained him and seized the vehicle. Maiesha Nur, a spokesperson for the protesting BUP student, urged the students of all educational institutions across Bangladesh to boycott classes and exams. The government had pledged to meet the demands of the students, mostly from schools and colleges, to ensure safety on roads at the time. He was buried at Banani Military Graveyard after a Namaz-e-Janaza or funeral prayers on the BUP campus at Mirpur Cantonment. Md Jahangir Kabir, a spokesman for BUP, said it would initiate legal action over the death of Abrar after consulting his family.
