Sonic Waves evenings at Cut, curated by Françoise Lamy and Graham Daniels, are proving to be a jewel in the venue’s crown. After the interval, the Jesse Barrett Trio seated themselves cross-legged amidst a tangle of wires attached to both instruments and mysterious knob-twiddling devices. What followed was a mesmerising set that mixed electronica with classical Indian music, largely improvised but based on their album Adhyatma. Just watching Jesse Barrett perform is an entertainment in itself, as one hand plays out rhythms on the tablas while the other taps on a small snare and his foot operates the bass drum. I can barely wait to see what treats Françoise and Graham have in store for us next.
