: We know we have binary black holes and binary neutron stars, so there must be a merger, we want to detect that. Also, we want supernovas (an astronomical event that occurs during the last stellar evolutionary stages of a massive star's life). Having a detector in India improves our ability to localise events in the sky. : Are the detectors as sensitive as you want them to be, or is there more work in that direction? Binary black we can see much further, we are sensitive to 1 or 2 gigaparsecs that 3 billion light years approx.
