The 6ft 6in bodybuilder caught to the attention of George Lucas, the Star Wars director, as a bodyguard in the 1971 film A Clockwork Orange. He was invited to audition for the parts of Vader and Chewbacca, but chose to play the Sith Lord. Later he told the BBC this was because “you always remember the bad guys”.
