The idea that an “impact assessment” would magically protect our data is laughable. It’s about as believable as Facebook’s claim that it had rigorous measures in place to prevent Cambridge Analytica from doing precisely what it did. I, for one, will not set foot in Googleland Toronto until all the sensors and cameras are taken down, and control over the data and the land is handed over to a democratically accountable political entity.
