Data From 540,000 GPS Vehicle Trackers Leaked Online - News Summed Up

Data From 540,000 GPS Vehicle Trackers Leaked Online

This time the exposed data contained details on more than half a million vehicle tracking devices and their users. Vehicle information was also exposed, including license plate numbers, VINs and where the tracking device was physically installed. Kromtech was able to access all the data because the Amazon S3 "bucket" in which it was stored had not been properly secured. In that particular incident, a third party with access to the data was reported to blame for the leak. The company recently started scanning its S3 cloud storage service for "buckets" that may have been accidentally exposed due to improper configuration.
