The US government’s data portal now offers more than 231,000 datasets, and even these are only a fraction of the data resources available through US federal, state and local governments. Each source listed on the portal includes descriptive information, including the name of the source agency, metadata, and a contact for more information – usually a specific, named contact person. Sometimes, though, you just want a sense of what’s available and what can be done with it.
