There are good reasons for today’s cotton wool culture. We are more alive to the threat of knife crime these days than we have ever been. Yet the rise in childhood obesity is down to the sedentary lifestyle of so many kids these days. Blame schools all you want, but we as parents have a responsibility not to develop generations unable to function or take decisions for themselves because we want to wrap them up in cotton wool. It might not lead to taking your life into your own hands on the edge of a cliff – but it might just bring our kids back from the brink.
