I can’t believe it’s a full decade since Ireland went bust and had to call in the IMF cavalry. But it must be, because Philip Boucher-Hayes has been running a Radio 1 podcast on this subject over recent weeks. Especially intriguing, given the current state of things, is the episode about why we seemed so passive in our response. More to my liking is something such as Futureproof’s (Newstalk, Sat noon) investigation into why ice ages happen. Everything — even “seismic” happenings like the bailout — seems that bit more unimportant, even trivial, in the grand scheme of things.
