Danielle Smith: Alberta sovereignty is a constitutional rightBy now you have probably heard about the Alberta Sovereignty Act, which I have proposed during my campaign to lead Alberta’s governing United Conservative Party. It would essentially give Alberta the same power within confederation that Quebec has. Shocking, I know. It is a tool, based in the rule of law, which allows Alberta to ensure all federal law is in sync with: (1) sections 92-95 of the Canadian Constitution; (2) the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms; and (3) The Alberta Human Rights Act. Its sole job is to bring lawfulness to an often lawless and misguided federal government.
