When he submitted his manuscript (under his “gender-neutral” pseudonym AJ Finn) he was a senior editor at the New York publishing house, William Morrow. The kind of book he had always wanted to write, but never felt able to, was suddenly the kind of book that everyone wanted to read. Mallory was still working full time at his publisher, and disclosed to no one that he was working on a book.
