In a bombshell communique that sent shockwaves throughout the film industry, Daniel Day-Lewis announced his retirement from acting via a statement from a spokesperson on Tuesday. "Daniel Day-Lewis will no longer be working as an actor," wrote Day-Lewis' spokeswoman Leslee Dart. Day-Lewis' final film, a fashion drama set in London entitled Phantom Thread, reunites him with writer-director Paul Thomas Anderson (his director from 2007's There Will Be Blood) and is slated for release this Christmas. According to Variety, an unnamed source has affirmed that Day-Lewis will participate in the promotion of the film. Day-Lewis, 60, rose to prominence in 1985 with a pair of breakthrough roles in My Beautiful Laundrette and A Room with a View.
