A man who's admitted he ran a red light and killed a Melbourne grandmother is due to face court for sentencing. Addis Woldesilassie has pleaded guilty to dangerous driving causing death and serious injury over a 2016 crash that killed 72-year-old Giovanna Dimech and left her 74-year-old best friend seriously injured. The traffic light had been red for almost 10 seconds and Ms Dimech and her friend had almost finished crossing the road when they were struck by Woldesilassie at Sunshine North. The Ethiopian man wants to be spared a long jail sentence so he can keep his Australian visa and avoid deportation. He is expected to be sentenced in the County Court at 10.30am on Monday.
