The island of Barbuda took a paralyzing hit from Hurricane Irma just a few days ago. The hurricane wasn’t initially forecast to grow this strong, but Jose encountered a similar environment that allowed Hurricane Irma to grow into such a monstrous hurricane. A favorable atmosphere combined with warm ocean waters has allowed Hurricane Jose to rapidly intensify over the past few days. Barbuda isn't the only island at risk from Hurricane Jose. Hurricane Luis devastated Antigua and Barbuda in early September 1995 as the storm’s category four winds raked across the islands.
