Damaged rail slows West Rail trains

A ‘broken rail’ on the tracks of the MTR’s West Rail line in the afternoon forced the railway to slow trains down in the affected area between East Tsim Sha Tsui and Austin Stations, RTHK reports. The railway said this could extend journey times from Tuen Mun to Hung Hom by up to ten minutes. The latest disruption comes after an MTR inquiry earlier this month concluded that flawed repair work by maintenance workers led to a train derailment last September, that left eight passengers injured and disrupted services on the East Rail. Trains are running at 14-minute intervals between Hung Hom and Tuen Mun stations and at seven-minute intervals between Nam Cheong and Tuen Mun stations.
