Damaged overhead bridge near Penang ferry terminal dismantled

GEORGE TOWN: The overhead pedestrian bridge near the Pengkalan Raja Tun Uda ferry terminal in Weld Quay have been completely dismantled. In a statement, the Penang Island City Council (MBPP) said Weld Quay (from Lebuh Downing junction to Gat Lebuh Chulia) would be closed for the removal of the overhead pedestrian bridge. It is learnt that only the road from Gat Lebuh Chulia heading towards Lebuh Downing junction is open to traffic. The structure, which was built in the 1970s, was the first overhead pedestrian bridge in Penang. The structure was completely taken down by 8.30am on Thursday (Feb 6) and the road remains closed for cleaning-up works.
