During investigation, cops found that he had stabbed himself as a publicity stunt. Maheria is a witness in another case, in which a Dalit youth Piyush Parmar was attacked by members of the dominant caste for sporting a mustache. Maheria's friends admitted that they had created the scene to gain publicity in media.
