Sringeri police told The Hindu that the woman consumed poison and she had been taken to a hospital in Mangaluru for treatment. The woman had filed a complaint with Sringeri police on Tuesday against Narendra Heggade. The accused, in an inebriated mood on new year eve, raped her, she said in the complaint. The accused is a former gram panchayat member.
