It was interesting on the press conference telecast — Dale Jr. was utterly charming, by the way — when Jeff Hammond talked about Neil Bonnett. Both those guys were competitive, right up to the end, and I don’t think Dale Jr. is on his game at all. I know he feels a responsibility to the sport, but he doesn’t have to be out there, driving a race car, to fulfill it. Although this is the first contract he’s signed to drive for a Ferrari team, Marcelli is no stranger to Ferrari racing cars. I’m 27 now and I’ve been a professional race driver since I was 20.
