The publisher of the Daily Mail and Mail on Sunday is to cut dozens of jobs as it grapples with surging costs and a shift to digital audiences. In a memo to staff, Ted Verity, editor of Mail Newspapers, said the company will begin merging operations across the two titles, resulting in a reduction in the number of journalists. “So the next phase of this process will involve bringing the Daily Mail and Mail on Sunday much closer together.”Both newspaper titles will retain their own columnists and senior staff. Staff who are not made redundant may still see a change in working pattern, job title, line manager or duties. The changes mark a renewed digital push by parent company Daily Mail and General Trust (DMGT), which is now under the control of Lord Rothermere following a take-private deal that ended its 90-year stint on the London Stock Exchange.
