Grieving Nichola, 38, told TeessideLive: "His last words to me were 'don't put me to sleep, I won't wake up'. It was so heartbreaking to hear but I told him to stop being silly and that he would be home soon. Leon, a forklift driver, and Nichola had been self-isolating after they both tested positive for coronavirus in early November. Leon and Nichola dated when they were pupils at Ormesby School, and began a serious relationship almost a decade ago. The NHS England data shows there were 20,426 patients in NHS hospitals in England as of 8am on Monday, compared to the 18,974 patients recorded on April 12.
