A number of agitated students of Dhaka University (DU) brought out a protest march on Tuesday and burnt the effigy of the university’s Proctor AKM Golam Rabbani for his alleged silence over the recent attacks on students by Chhatra League members last week. Gathered under the banner “Students Against Repression,” the protesters wore coloured glasses to symbolize the proctor’s silence during Chhatra League’s attack on general students. The march began around 1pm at the Teacher-Student Centre (TSC) and ended near Raju sculpture, where they set the effigy on fire. Addressing the protest, journalism and mass communication student Abu Raihan demanded the proctor’s immediate resignation. Earlier on January 15, waves of attacks launched by Chhatra League activists injured around 30 students who were demonstrating on the DU campus demanding the withdrawal of a case against them and the punishment of the Chhatra League activists who assaulted and molested students.
