DPP in apparent compromise on infrastructure bill review

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- The convener of the legislative committee tasked to review the government's controversial infrastructure bill agreed on Monday to step down from her role in an apparent compromise to the Kuomintang (KMT). Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Legislator Chiu Yi-ying (邱議瑩) announced she was stepping down as committee convener in a "goodwill response" to the KMT's demands. She later nullified the committee vote, bringing the bill back to review, where it met fierce KMT obstruction last week. Today's demands were to change the legislative convener and I humbly accept their request," she said. The PFP legislative caucus stated that the government has not adequately heard the viewpoints of citizens regarding the plan.
