Deputy President William Ruto was snubbed during the Madaraka Day celebrations at Uhuru Gardens missing a chance to address guests in a national event for the first time. In similar events of such stature, the Deputy President takes charge of the programme. President Uhuru proceeded to invite visiting Sierra Leone President Julius Maada Bio to make some brief remarks before customarily starting his speech with the signature, fellow Kenyans phrase. Earlier in the morning, President Uhuru had hosted the Cabinet for a brief meeting at State House where he thanked them for their support during his tenure. While the meeting was ongoing, the Deputy President was at Uhuru Gardens receiving guests, with sources indicating that he had not been invited.
