Two cases of a lesser-prominent variant of COVID-19, the Kappa variant have emerged from the state of Uttar Pradesh. Delta Plus variantThe new Delta plus variant has been formed due to a mutation in the Delta or B.1.617.2 variant, first identified in India. Apart from the usual symptoms, Delta plus patients also exhibited stomach ache, nausea, appetite loss, vomiting, joint pains, hearing impairment, and such others. As per WHO, the Lambda variant has at least seven significant mutations in the spike protein (the Delta variant has three). The Kappa variant's antibody neutralizing capabilities may slightly reduce the effectiveness for both vaccines and immunity generated from natural infections.
