Maharashtra government has launched an exercise to put in place policy to promote startups by public universities. The government's move comes against the backdrop of the Maharashtra Public Universities Act, 2017 which came into effect from March this year. The policy will be applicable in 11 public universities and universities such as SNDT Women's University and Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Technological University. The public universities will establish a separate Board for this purpose. The officer said the public universities will take a cue from existing startups and innovation ventures by IITs and IIMs.
