DMK challenges trust vote in HC

Chennai, Feb 20 (PTI): The Opposition DMK on Monday petitioned the Madras High Court to declare Saturday's vote of confidence in the Tamil Nadu Assembly null and void. R. Shanmugasundaram, a former Rajya Sabha member who is counsel for the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam also sought an urgent hearing of the petition. The bench of acting Chief Justice Huluvadi G. Ramesh and Justice R. Mahadeven posted the petition for hearing on Tuesday. Palaniswami had won the trust vote 122-11 in the 234-member assembly, of the ruling All India Anna DMK after DMK members were evicted and DMK allies walked out. The division vote was taken up after two adjournments following tempestuous scenes during which the opposition MLAs insisted on a secret vote, which was rejected by Speaker P. Dhanapal.
