J Anbazhagan, a Member of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly from the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam passed away at a hospital in Chennai on Wednesday due to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19). He served as an MLA thrice and was among the key strategists for the DMK. On Tuesday, Dr. Rela Hospital had declared the DMK MLA "very critical”, saying his existing kidney disease pared his chances. Anbazhagan was admitted to the hospital last week after he complained of severe acute respiratory distress. The DMK MLA was put on ventilator support on June 3 as his situation worsened.
