(NEWSCHANNEL 3) - The Department of Homeland Security is conducting additional screenings of some flights from the Middle East and North Africa. Reports say the move is part of a larger electronics ban announced last month, but the additional screenings are done behind the scenes and have not been officially made public. The extra measures include checking planes' cargo holds with bomb-sniffing dogs and equipment. That's often done before those planes arrive at their gates. Those screenings are happening at 14 airports, including Atlanta, O'Hare, Miami, Los Angeles and New York's JFK.
