DEFENSE: MOROCCO EXPLORING ACQUSITION OF KOREAN K2 TANKS & MEDIUM RANGE AIR DEFENSE SYSTEM – The North Africa Post

Morocco is reportedly exploring the acquisition of up to 400 South Korean K2 Black Panther tanks and the Cheongung medium-range air defense system as strategic partnership between Seoul and Rabat is gaining momentum. According to experts, the potential deal would enable Moroccan army to diversify military weaponry and modernize its land and air defense capabilities. The K2 Black Panther is Korea’s fourth-generation battle tank (MBT), developed by Hyundai Rotem group. The North African Kingdom is also interested in the Korean medium-range surface-to-air missile system, designed to intercept aircraft and cruise missiles. In February 2025, Hyundai Rotem group won a $1.5 billion contract to supply electric trains to Moroccan railway national company.
