DCI to keep records of students involved in criminal conduct

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) now says that apart from prosecuting students involved in criminal activities, information on them and charges preferred against them will be archived and produced on their police clearance certificate, potentially ruining their chances of employment. Among the offences the DCI lists for criminal profiling are armed and violent demonstrations, arson, drugs, cyber-bullying, assault and drunkenness. “The biggest problem is that a majority of our students returned to school with characters they did not have before. Mr Indimuli, the principal of Machakos School, suggested the formulation of a code of conduct for students that spells out the consequences of delinquency in school. To avert students’ unrest in schools, Dr Mugo suggested a review of discipline methods by understanding the causes of the learners’ deviant behaviour.
