In an effort to digitize Philippine agriculture, the Department of Agriculture (DA), through Planters Products Inc. (PPI), and Satsure AG signed a memorandum of agreement (MoA) on Monday to provide better crop insurance in the country using satellite technology. The MoA signing was witnessed by Agriculture Secretary William Dar and Philippine Crop Insurance Corp. (PCIC) President Jovy Bernabe. He said crop monitoring should be improved. The objectives of these activities are to improve risk management and crop insurance and agriculture lending to farmers. The DA tapping satellite technology to improve crop insurance coverage follows the department’s announcement last week that it is laying the groundwork to digitize its operations, starting with the upgrading of its management information system (MIS).
