Between 1 and 2 p.m., the mercury peaked at 83 degrees, a new record for the date and the second highest temperature ever recorded so late in the calendar year. The 83-degree high easily topped the previous Nov. 3 record of 80 degrees set in 1974. Baltimore-Washington International Marshall Airport rose to 78 degrees, two degrees below its record of 80 from 2003. D.C. joined dozens of cities from the Midwest to the Southeast that have set new temperature records this week. This latest 80-degree reading in D.C. bookends the third warm spell that the D.C. area has witnessed since mid-October.
