D.C. high school coach wins $5,000 with 50-yard Frisbee toss

Dave Ohls (center) and his dummy (lying prone on the ground) celebrate his prize with the D.C. Breeze. If you knew that a D.C. professional ultimate Frisbee team was running a contest in which a contestant was offered the chance to win $5,000 by throwing a Frisbee 50 yards into a mannequin, you might assume that this professional ultimate Frisbee team would be rooting against its chosen contestants. After all, $5,000 isn’t chump change for a professional ultimate Frisbee team, whose gate gross from a home game is maybe in the high four figures. “I would say it was pretty much the opposite,” said Don Grage, the managing partner of the D.C. Breeze. This year, the team created the “5kToss Challenge Series,” in which a random ticket buyer was selected to chuck a Frisbee 50 yards toward a mannequin, with five grand at stake.
